Better Late Than Never, I Guess

I got an e-mail from EMILY’s List yesterday. They are announcing that they are endorsing Regina Romero in her race for City Council.
She’s got her primary on Tuesday, and she’s cruising to a likely victory. After that, she has no opponent in the general election. Here I thought the “E” stood for “Early.”

Glassman Update

Rodney Glassman is having a campaign party tonight at the Maverick (King of Clubs!) at 6622 E Tanque Verde. The party goes from 5:00 to 7:30, and everyone is welcome to attend. It is hosted by Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.
The event is free, because Glassman has already raised all of the money he can raise. He […]

Yeah, What the Heck

I got a note from Dave Croteau last week asking if he can be listed in the Election Aught Seven section. I get requests like this once in a while. Since many of them are for people that I know little about and are in some far flung part of the state, most of the time I issue a […]

And She Isn’t From Saskatchewan

I recieved a missive from Regina Romero’s campaign that she will be voting at one of our city’s early voting poling locations over at City Hall. The release fails to note whether she will be voting for herself, or for opponent Ken Green.
Early voting begins today, and can be done either at the City Hall at […]

Say What? (Pt. 2)

The Star ran an editorial a couple of weeks ago urging citizens to get registered and file for early ballots because, gosh darnit all, this election is muy importante.
(They didn’t really say it that way. Heaven forbid the Star use a bit of Spanish in their editorials for fear of causing apoplexy in the likes of […]

Say What? (Pt. 1)

The main reason, at least as reported by our dailies, for John Kromko’s truncated campaign for mayor is that he didn’t believe he could raise the money for a run.
Eh? We have a public finance system for elections in Tucson. Yes, it is a matching fund system, but I find it hard to believe that […]

That Didn’t Take Long

John Kromko has told the Tucson Weekly’s Jim Nintzel that he will not be running for mayor after all.
Here I was ready to do a whole post on the technicalities of his race. Geez.

Kromko for Mayor?

Yesterday, former State Representative John Kromko filed to run as a write-in candidate for the Green Party’s nomination for Mayor. Apparently, presumptive Green nominee Dave Croteau is planning on dropping out.
The Greens fall under the city’s “new party” rules (they didn’t run any candidates in the last city election), which means that if Kromko manages […]

Another Entry in the “What’s Up With THAT?” File

It looks as though Bob Walkup won’t have much of a race this year. The Democrats have largely abandoned the field, leaving Walkup to run against Green Party candidate Dave Croteau. I like what I’ve heard from Croteau, and I might even vote for him. As it looks right now, however, I can’t think of […]

But, They Have That Fun Smiley Face Mascot, They Can’t Be All Bad

A week or so ago, Daniel Scarpinato’s Political Notebook column featured comments from Pete Zimmerman, a Democratic consultant who is working on behalf of an initiative drive being pushed by Wal-Mart. Of the criticism he’s taking from Democratic activists, he said:
It really boils down to a war that’s being waged on Wal-Mart by several unions […]

Who’s In, Who’s Out?

I haven’t given an update for a while on who is actually running for council this year. You could, of course, check this yourself.
There is only a few weeks left to submit petition signatures. Two Democrats, Ward 2 candidate Rodney Glassman and Ward 4 incumbent Shirley Scott have submitted their signatures so will be listed […]

Glassman Full to the Top

Ward 2 Council candidate Rodney Glassman turned in his signatures yesterday, becoming not only the first to qualify for the ballot, but turning in the maximum number of signatures (767) on the very first day of filing.
Democratic primary opponent Robert Reuss only filed his paperwork to begin collecting the minimum 384 signatures a couple of […]

We’ve Got Ourselves Some Primaries!

A quick perusal of the official list from the Clerk’s office shows Robert Reus has filed his paperwork to run in the Democratic primary for Ward 2 City Council. Reus has been a frequent speaker at Mayor and Council meetings and advocates a strong-mayor form of government.
Reus has until June 13th to get at least […]

Glassman 2/3 of the Way There

Rodney Glassman’s campaign announced today that it has gotten to 65% of its fundraising goal. Glassman has committed to only raising money in $20 increments. Since I gave him the same Andy Jackson that everyone else did, I am as much of a “high roller” giver to his campaign as Jack Camper or Peter Likins […]

Water’s For Fighting

I got a note from John Kromko last night. He wanted me to put up a link to his latest petition drive, No More Water Fees. In the 80’s and 90’s, a Kromko petition drive was enough to send chills down the spines of elected officials and bureaucrats everywhere. His organizational ability lost some of its […]

Oh, Yeah, and Daniel…

Over at Sonoran Alliance, they claim that I am so fixated with Jack Harper that I haven’t written that Daniel Patterson isn’t running for Mayor after all. It’s not that I’m fixated, the guy has given me a wealth of material. It’s not my fault the guy has developed legislative rabies.
But, you’re right about one thing fellas, […]

Patterson on the Move

Daniel Patterson has reserved a website for a possible mayoral campaign. The title of the page even includes a question mark, since he is still mulling things over. He has given April 13th as the day by which he will make his decision.
If he decides not to run for mayor, he has told supporters that he may instead […]

Oien Elevates the Dialogue

It was reported to me a few weeks back that Lori Oien was complaining to folks that Rodney Glassman was not involved in his neighborhood association. First of all, it’s not even true. Secondly, even if it was, it would be a better charge to level at someone who had no previous community involvement, as in “he […]

Wal-Mart 1 - Community Organizers 0

The Tucson City Council last night voted 6 - 1 in favor of a development on the South Side that will likely include a Wal-Mart. Well, it doesn’t explicitly say a Wal-Mart, but the developer demanded exceptions to the “big box” ordinance that are usually only demanded by Wal-Mart.
Congratulations to Karin Uhlich for voting against […]

Okay, Okay…

Got a call the other day from a reader who told me, “You should write something positive, you know, like how Rodney Glassman had 200 people at his campaign kick off party…”
Yeah, I didn’t write about Glassman’s campaign kick-off on Friday. I meant to, but it slipped by.
Glassman’s kick-off was, yes, packed. The variety of […]
