Cat Slowly Exits Transparent Bag

A certain Samuel Pearson Goddard III, also known by the alias “Terry,” has filed an exploratory run for governor. The web page for his explorations is up too.
Since everyone knew this would happen, it is my job to make this interesting by harping on some minor facts.
Goddard’s campaign chairwoman is former Arizona Cantaloupe Queens pitcher [...]

Overinterpreting

The big talk today is that Jan Brewer will announce she is running for re-election.
Or is that just “election”? Do they call it re-election when you never actually got elected to the office? You are all free to argue about this. The more pedantic the comment, the better, I always say.
I spoke to an R-Cubed [...]

What, He Was Still Running?

The last “major” Democrat running against Terry Goddard has officially announced he is dropping his bid for the nomination. Neil Giuliano made noise over the summer about running after switching to the Democratic party. With other “anti-Goddards” dropping out of the race, you’d think that Giuliano would have been able to marshall some support, but [...]

-Yawn- Another Poll Shows Goddard Ahead

The folks over at Rasmussen have new poling data showing that Terry Goddard is ahead of some of his possible opponents in next year’s election. The Public Policy Polling data that came out was derided by a couple of Republican observers as some partisan firm that is just trying to boost the probable Democratic nominee. [...]

What Was Weak Last Week

Some stuff I missed out on last week:
- The folks over at Gila Courier decided to pull a quote out of context from Gabrielle Giffords and play like she called people in her district “crazy.” Kenny Jacobs over at his a Pithy Diarist blog called them out on it. I suppose their mischaracterization of Giffords’s [...]

Goddard Beats All Comers

Public Policy Polling has a new poll out that isn’t good news for Republicans thinking that they can hold the Governor’s office next year. Well, one bit of good news for them: Jan Brewer is nearly as popular with Barack Obama voters as she is with John McCain voters. Of course, when only 28% of [...]

Age of Exploration

Much has been made over the last couple of days of Andrew Thomas opening up an exploratory committee to make another run for attorney general. Thomas ran for the same office in 2002 and lost to Terry Goddard.
Yep, Thomas is exploring. I’m sure he’s thinking Ferdinand Magellan, but I’m thinking Pánfilo de Narváez.

Because There Is Nothing Better to Do, I Guess?

Had a bit of a hiatus on substantive posts because of the labor day weekend, but here is something from Gila Courier from last Friday:
Several Republicans in the Arizona House met on Friday to discuss a high risk strategy to get Arizona Treasurer Dean Martin installed as governor. These would be king makers discussed the [...]

Pullen a Fast One

A bit of Southwestern wisdom for Randy Pullen (one that he may not appreciate because of the language it’s in): En boca cerrada, no entran moscas.
Pullen held a hastilly organized press conference, the purpose of which was to repeat charges from last May that Terry Goddard and Kyrsten Sinema are in violation of the resign [...]

Goddard as Acting Governor?

With Jan Brewer’s impending vacation and a budget waiting for either a signature or a veto, I got a call wondering if an appointed secretary of state can be an “acting governor.” As many of us know, an appointed secretary of state can’t be appointed governor in the case of a permanent vacancy. We last [...]
