Gallego Gets Endorsement Guaranteed to Tick Off Jonathan Paton

Ruben Gallego’s campaign is set to announce an honorary chair: United Farm Workers co-Founder Dolores Huerta.
This is not the first time Huerta has gotten involved in Arizona politics: she came to Arizona to campaign for Raúl Grijalva and often comes to our state for Cesár Chávez holiday events. She also makes frequent visits to local [...]

Quarterfinals

The all important quarterfinal has been set in the World Cup of Arizona Politics. Voting closes at noon tomorrow.
We’ve got liberal icon Mo Udall against chair of the progressive caucus Raúl Grijalva in the first match. Be very afraid on that one. Another interesting match is Arizona’s first woman in congress, Isabella Greenway, against conservative [...]

Finally, Grijalva and Giffords Get Mentioned in a Respectable Publication

America’s Finest News Source has given mention to Southern Arizona’s two congressional representatives.
One note I need to make, however. I contacted Raúl Grijalva aide Natalie Luna and she confirmed that Grijalva does not drive a Buick LaSabre but a Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid.

No Word If Tyne Daly Plays His Sidekick

There is an article in this morning’s Roll Call entitled “Grijalva: Enforcer for House Progressives.” Money paragraph:
An earthy, rumpled former social worker and community activist from Tucson who didn’t get a college degree until he was 39, Grijalva seems better suited to talk to House leaders and less liberal colleagues than some of his fellow [...]

The Weiser Lock Copper Bowl of Freedom!

An R-Cubed senior correspondent reports that in conjunction with Michelle Bachman’s “Superbowl of Freedom” in Washington, a single protestor showed up at Raúl Grijalva’s district office in Tucson with a sign that said “Grijalva = Communism”. He got bored after ten minutes and left.
Quoth our senior correspondent: “I guess he didn’t feel that strongly about [...]

Grijalva Still Pushing for “Robust” Public Option

TPM reports that our man Raúl Grijalva was not present at the “unveiling” of the health care bill, but that he is pushing for an amendment to give it a stronger public option. Grijalva’s statement to Brian Beutler of TPM:
I am not rolling over. I will insist on a Medicare-plus-five amendment on the Floor so [...]

Grijalva on Senate Finance Committee Bill

Statement from Raúl Grijalva on the health care bill that passed the Senate Finance Committee yesterday:
The Senate Finance Committee Bill does not address the most pressing health care issues facing Americans today. Most importantly, it does not offer a public option to compete with the insurance companies, which an overwhelming majority of voters are calling [...]

At Least Raúl Has Never Showered With Simon Elliot

Hispanic Business magazine named their “100 Influentials,” and making the list is our own Raúl Grijalva, who made their “Power Brokers” categories. Not so bad for a kid from Sunnyside, ya think?
Also making the list in the “Sports” category is US National Team and former Chicago Fire center back Carlos Bocanegra. This is probably the [...]

Grijalva Slams Conrad and Baucus

In one of those moves designed especially to frustrate folks like me, Kent Conrad and Max Baucus are placing language in the health care bill apparently prompted by Joe Wilson’s rant.
Come-the-heck-on.
The legislation already had specific language on this matter, and this truth didn’t seem to matter to the Wilsons of the world. Heck, Sarah Palin’s [...]

What Dave Said…

Over at Blog for Arizona, David Safier takes down the Star for its anemic coverage of the President’s speech last night. I’m here to pile on.
Something that Safier only tangentially notes is that both of the Star’s articles can be found elsewhere: one was from the New York Times (cue the angry Pace cowboys) and [...]
