Phoenix Appoints Polish-Mexican Vice-Mayor

The Phoenix City Council voted this afternoon to appoint Michael Nowakowski Vice-Mayor.
Nowakowski is the first Hispanic to become Vice-Mayor in this century as well as the first Polish-Mexican to achieve this distinction since statehood.

Consensus

Once in a while, I pop over to Jason Rose’s Twitter feed. Many of his latest epistles are going after Jan Brewer’s ties to the payday loan industry.
It’s funny to watch Rose, with his innumerable fingers in the punch bowl, going after a candidate because of the ties of her consultants. Given how much money [...]

Gallego Files

I normally don’t write about legislative candidates in the Phoenix area, but what the heck?
Ruben Gallego is is finishing off the last of his case files for Councilman Michael Nowakowski’s office and will make a run for the State House in Distict 16. Gallego is part of a new crop of younger Hispanics running for [...]

Vast Tracts of Land

When they held the forum for Tucson City Council candidates at Guadalupe Chapel, expansion of a section of 22nd Street to near freeway dimensions was brought up. Aside from one rather mealy mouthed answer, even the Republican candidates had to at least pay lip service to the needs of the nieghborhoods and lean towards being [...]

Maybe Andy Summers Endorsed Him?

I was in Phoenix last week, and I noticed that Phoenix City Councilmember Sal DiCiccio has his signs emblazoned with the words “Police Endorsed.”
I found this unusual, because last month, the Arizona Police Association endorsed DiCiccio’s opponent, Dana Kennedy. As it turns out, DiCiccio was endorsed by a much smaller police association.
So I guess he [...]

Gordon Takes On Pearce

I must say this much for Phil Gordon: all the times I’ve criticized him for supporting Republicans (and not just a moderate or two), there are a few knuckledraggers he’s willing to call out.
He had an editorial in the Republic calling out Russell Pearce for making up facts when Pearce decided to criticize Phoenix as [...]

Phil Gordon: Off My List. Again.

Phoenix, meet your new city councilmember: Sal DiCiccio.
DiCiccio is a former councilmember, and has run for Secretary of State and congress. He has also been called “self-serving” by former Republican mayor Skip Rimsza and is a staunch right winger. He’s been a strong supporter of the excesses of Andrew Thomas and Joe Arpaio. To top it [...]

That’s Pan Meksikański to You, Pal!

In a stuning upset, Michael Nowakowski defeated Laura Pastor for a Phoenix City Council seat.
Look for this to mean an epic battle between Nowakowski and my brother for leadership at the next meeting of the Arizona Council of Polish-Mexican Elected Officials.

Gordon Camp Fires Back

I recieved this e-mail from the Phil Gordon campaign:
As a Democrat working on the Phil Gordon for Mayor 2007 campaign, along with our Deputy Campaign Director who comes directly from the Arizona Democratic Party, I wanted to respond to your recent post. Feel free to use any or all of it in your blog.
In addition [...]
