Huelga Cancelled

This fresh from the UFCW:
We are proud to report that a strike has been averted with Safeway, Fry’s and Smiths.
After 13 months of bargaining and a strike deadline just hours away, UFCW Local 99 and the grocery companies have agreed on a tentative new three-year contract.

Labor Day

From the movie Matewan:

Idiotic

Many of you probably heard about Andrew Ross Sorkin on Morning Joe where he challenged people to “name a successful unionized company.”
James Hoffa had a great response to this, but Sorkin would have needed to look no further than the unionized crew in the studio he was mouthing off in to see evidence of a [...]

SEIU Files Injunction Today

SEIU held a rally at the Maricopa County Court House to announce that they are filing a lawsuit alleging that the state violated its own rules with its recent round of layoffs. Press release after the jump.

Wait, No, Can’t Be

Something that went unnoted in my mention yesterday of the memorial in opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act. State employees have asked for a vote, by secret ballot, on whether or not to join a union. You’d they are so supportive of the secret ballot in labor elections (as their own bill says), our state’s Republicans [...]

What Was Weak Last Week

I’ve got a few small items that I neglected to address last week. Now, I can say “After the jump…” like all the classy blogs do.
