No, Totally Different

I’ve heard some grumbling from Republicans about Janet Napolitano’s plan to raise revenue by installing more cameras to catch speeders. Frankly, I ain’t exactly comfortable with thinking of this as a possible revenue source either.
But, the complaining about this part of the plan would be a little easier for folks like me to handle if it […]

Barack Blowback

The first bit of fallout has been measured from the governor’s endorsement of Barack Obama. Many of the women who form the backbone of Janet Napolitano’s organization here in Pima County are the staunchest of Hillary Clinton’s backers. They are, shall we say, less than pleased.
I spoke to one Clinton supporter a few weeks back who was confident […]

Napolitano Endorses…?

Talk coming out of the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area is that Janet Napolitano is going to endorse Barack Obama.
Would be unusual…stay tuned.

Got Me Some Mail

So, this guy in know in Los Angeles writes a soccer blog and he has categories based on players he likes. For example, he has a category called “Cobi Freakin’ Jones” and one called “David Freakin’ Beckham.” Yes, he uses the word “Freakin’” rather than the alternative because he is concerned for the children.
I noted […]

And The Primary Date Will Be…

As expected, the Arizona’s Presidential Preference Election (why they can’t just call it a darned primary is beyond me, another thing I blame on Jan Brewer) will be set to February 5th rather than later in the month. Despite the handwringing of a few about this being too early, this is actually about the same […]

Me Picking Nits

This picture ran in this morning’s Star. It features Justice Sandra Day O’Connor speaking to two people at the National Governor’s Association meeting. The caption identifies O’Connor and mentions the topics that she spoke about at the meeting. The caption fails to identify the women she is talking to, one of whom looks like Jennifer […]

Interesting Poll…and I Don’t Mean Chopin or Izabella Scorupco

So, one of our state’s many public policy advocacy organizations commissioned a poll. It wasn’t supposed to be on electoral politics, but included questions about some of our state’s politicians as a way to correlate the data.
When checking the crosstabs, they found some interesting numbers.
All Voters:
John McCain - Total Positive 41%, Total Negative 37%
Janet Napolitano […]

Correspondence From Y’all, My People

I got a missive from a frequent correspondent wondering why I haven’t taken the governor to task for signing the employer sanctions bill. The writer apparently didn’t notice that except for a post about the death of Mayor Jim Corbett and a quick and dirty posting about Mika Bzezinski, I haven’t posted anything all week.
I don’t […]

Bruce Edward Babbitt

Today is the birthday of former Attorney General, Governor and Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt.
Babbitt was elected Attorney General of Arizona in 1974, the last Democrat elected to that office until Janet Napolitano won in 1998. He served as governor of Arizona from the death in 1978 of Governor Wesley Bolin until 1987 when he made […]

Please, Save Us From Our Poor Political Decisions!

One of the things that has continued to amuse me in our state’s politics is the tendency of folks in the buisiness community to continue to support some of the retrograde freaks that run our legislature, but then expect Democratic officials to ride in and stop these guys from pursuing policies that hurt their interests.
I […]
