There is a guy in the Pentagon whose job it is to come up with butt-stupid policies that are destined to infuriate the masses of folks who want to do right by our young people in uniform. He’s probably a Rumsfeld holdover.

That is the only reason I can figure for this latest outrage.

The Defense Department is witholding bonuses from servicemembers who fail to complete their commitments.

So, you say, “Tedski, you dumb liberal, of course they are doing that. If they don’t complete, why the heck should my tax dollars go to them?”

Well, you actually have a very good point there. Except for one thing: they didn’t complete their commitment because of injuries sustained in combat.

Yeah, their fault for driving by that IED.

Something I’ve Been Meaning to Post

My friend Kevin Spidel sent me an alert about this one a few days ago. He used to work for the PDA, now he works with a fella named Rev. Lennox Yearwood. Yearwood was going to observe the testimony of Gen. David Petraeus, his right along with the rest of us. Here is what happened next.

The stupid part is that other than asking why he was being singled out for going into the hearing, what reason did the police have to restrain him in the manner they did? The only thing I can figure is that they thought he was dangerous, that clerical colar and all. They couldn’t have picked him out for any other reason, right?

The stupid part about it is that the hearing was still disrupted by members of CodePink. They spent so much time trying to tackle the Reverend I guess they didn’t notice the women in pink that they were letting in.

Spidel has been keeping a running update on his blog. Yearwood sustained a broken leg, but will be charged with assaulting a police officer.

This video has been going around. Mika Brzeziński of MSNBC refused to read a story about Paris Hilton last week, especially because it was chosen as top story over Richard Lugar’s plans to take a walk on the Iraq War.

Some folks are wondering if the event was “staged.” So what if it was? She made her point. From the reactions of her co-hosts, it seems to be for real.

Brzeziński is the daughter of Zbigniew Brzeziński. When I was growing up, I used to see him on TV all the time and I identified with him and wondered if people gave him as much grief for his name as I got.

Rataczak – Not a Polish Dish Made From Eggplant

Republican Mahout Randy Pullen blogged that Sen. Harry Reid should step down because of his statements about Gen. Peter Pace. For some reason, Reid is not allowed to say anything bad about the guy in time of war without it causing major damage, but the president can actually have the guy sacked in time of war with negligible effect.

But, let’s step back and take Pullen at face value. Lets buy the premise that you can’t criticize our military leadership in time of war, and elected officials must support their decisions. Given this, I’m expecting a blog post from Pullen criticizing Sen. Jack Harper in the next couple of days.

Here’s what’s going on: the current Adjutant General of the Arizona National Guard is Gen. David Rataczak. Rataczak is up for reappointment before the State Senate. Yes, he’s leading “stateside” forces, but he is responsible for the current guard mission on the border and he is also responsible for making sure that Arizona Guard units are ready for deployment for Afghanistan and Iraq. So, given Pullen’s thesis, our elected officials should support him his reappointment should sail through.

Not so fast.

Rataczak has run afoul of many Republican legislators. In January, they raked him over the coals for the rules of engagement guardsmen are operating under, even accusing men under his command of abandoning their posts (no handwringing posts from Pullen on that one, but his blog wasn’t up yet. I’m sure that’s why).

Most importantly, he irritated Sen. Harper. Harper has been holding up Rataczak’s reappointment hearing. One theory making the rounds is that this pique started when Rataczak opposed a Harper proposal mandating where National Guardsmen could train. Whatever the cause, the session is drawing to an end. If no action is taken on this appointment by the end of the session, the Arizona National Guard will be without an Adjutant General.

Harper is willing to let our guardsmen, their operations on the border and their training missions go leaderless because of the pettiest of political reasons. Like Pace, Rataczak is a war hero with an inspiring story (he’s a general that came up the hard way; he came into the Army as an enlisted man), and deserves at least a hearing from Harper and his cronies.

By the way, why the heck is Tim Bee allowing this to go on?
