“We Love Mo Udall” and Other Lies Republicans Tell

A group called Conservatives for Congress is running ads against both Gabrielle Giffords and Raúl Grijalva. The committee consists of local car dealer Steve Christy and other Republican contributors and activists. Because of their committee status, there is no filing with the FEC to disclose their contributors or disbursements.
Some of their ads are available on [...]

What to Make of That?

A house that I pass just about every day featured two Jonathan Paton signs and one Ruth McLung sign. Yesterday, I saw the owner of the house take down the Paton signs.
This morning I saw that the Paton signs were replaced not with Jesse Kelly signs, but with McLung signs.

Here We Go Again?

As many of you know, Janet Napolitano is being mentioned as a possible nominee to replace David Souter. The crew over at First Read are hinting that she may have an inside track, but whether this is based on insider knowledge or just pundits trying to say something interesting is hard to tell.
Should she get [...]

The Akond of S.W.A.T.

New rumor I’ve heard: tomorrow former Surgeon General Richard Carmona will announce his candidacy against Raúl Grijalva.
Okay, sounds like a fun rumor, but I have a bit of trouble buying it. Carmona is registered to vote in the Tanque Verde area (miles from CD 7) and registered as an independent. Neither of these are insurmountable [...]

Mystery Woman

Arizona 8th is reporting that the Republicans have a candidate in CD 7 next year. I mean, besides Joe Sweeney:
If people voted based on looks then 2010 might be a good year for Republicans in CD 7. We hear the possible candidate is smart as well.
So, the authors of Arizona 8th are recognizing that a [...]

More Premature Speculation

There has been more talk that Nina Trasoff is interested in running for congress should Raúl Grijalva be offered the job of Secretary of Interior. Unlike some of the other possible aspirants, Trasoff would likely not have to resign her seat. The resign to run law doesn’t apply when a candidate has less than a [...]

Wherin I Have a Bit of Fun at The Yellow Sheet’s Expense

The Yellow Sheet ran an article on the possible replacements for Raúl Grijalva should he be appointed Secretary of the Interior. In the spirit of jumping the gun here (this whole thing is speculative, ennit?), I’ll leap to the end of their list:
Another Dem source says [Tom] Prezelski and Grijalva’s daughter, Adelita, are possible candidates.
Adelita [...]

True Tales from the Campaign Trail!

A friend of mine has been doing work for Raúl Grijalva. He was at the Arizona – USC game this weekend, and happened to walk by Tim Bee’s tailgate party. He also happened to be wearing a Barack Obama t-shirt.
Bee shouts out to him: “I love Obama!”
Um, yeah.
Bee approached him, my friend mentions that he [...]

Where Every Wingnut Gets His Due

One of the things that is nice about Arizona Illustrated during election time is that they stage debates among the candidates. They have a policy of inviting candidates to discuss their positions, no matter how little chance the candidate has to win or how out of the mainstream their ideas are. The advantage is that we [...]

What?

Aside from the obvious, one primary result that galls me from last night is Joe Sweeney’s victory in the CD 7 primary.
The times that Sweeney has won primaries, observers have let voters off of the hook too easily. The excuse is always given is that Sweeney has name ID from being on the ballot in [...]
