The state chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business endorsed Ken Cheuvront. He’s the only Democrat endorsed by the group, something that even the NFIB admits is unusual. This from the Yellow Sheet:
As for Cheuvront’s endorsement, [Farrel] Quinlan said the politics of the Legislature make it difficult for Dems to meet the minimum 70 percent on the scorecard needed to get an endorsement, but Cheuvront was consistently the best of the Dems during his previous stint at the Capitol. Since 2001, his lowest score was 55 percent in 2010, while he peaked at 100 percent in 2006.
Cheuvront wasn’t in the legislature last session so he’s been endorsed on spec. If you want to get an idea on how they think Cheuvront will vote, bills from the last session that NFIB graded included a budget busting cut in the capital gains tax and bill to make it harder for people to claim unemployment insurance. NFIB was also one of the main plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Barack Obama’s health care bill.

Ken Cheuvront’s record gets worse and worse as more light is shed on it. Voted to decrease education funding, voted to raise historic property tax values and now endorsed by one of the most conservative groups in Arizona. Does this sound like a Democrat that will represent Central Phoenix? Not in my book.
I’ve also heard, not confirmed though, that he is running for Senate so he can run for Justice of the Peace in the 2012 cycle and close out his state retirement account and get a higher pension return. This wouldn’t surprise me at all.
I bet his mama will be just as bad in tergards to views that the AZ NFIB holds. Hopefully the last name will doom them both on August 28th.
Since Cheuvront wasn’t in the legislature this past session, I don’t understand why they would endorse him. Was it just for a token Dem??
I used to think NFIB did some good. Lately, I feel as if they’re Goldwater Institute reincarnated.
