Ich Bin Ein…

Sometimes, Pima County District 5 is called a “West Side” district. It takes in a big chunk of Western Tucson, including places like Barrio Anita, Menlo Park and Old Pascua.

But, there is a strip of the district that takes in a pretty hefty chunk of midtown. The district goes pretty far, its frontier tickling the East side at Craycroft.

Well, I thought it only went that far. Apparently, it includes Germany.

You’d think so from the “likes” that the Republican candidate for county supervisor in that district, Fernando Gonzales. He’s managed to accumulate 4,066 “likes” for his Facebook page, the overwhelming bulk of which came in the last week and a half. As a matter of fact, it looks like more than half of those 4,066 “liked” him on June 3rd.

That would be unusual enough. It’s even odder than that. According to his Facebook stats, the place where he’s most popular is Munich.

Yes, there actually are firms that will boost your likes. I was a bit shocked when I listened to a recent episode of On the Media to find that there not only are firms that will boost your Twitter followers and Facebook likes, but people actually hire them.

Not that I’d think Gonzales would have to do such a thing. He’s huge in Germany. He’s Tucson’s answer to Hasselhoff.

You know WHO ELSE was pretty popular in Munich? (Apologies to my fellow Wonketeers… It was easy but appropriate).

He might have heard this from Wil Cardon, who is playing the same tricks in his US Senate race to inflate his own Facebook “likes.”
