A bit of sanity here gripped the those stately but boring buildings on West Washington. Word is out that HB 2625, which would have required women to justify to their employers their contraceptive use, has gone down on a 13 – 17 vote.
One reason for this may have been that the governor’s office hinted that this wasn’t exactly the fight they wanted in on.
UPDATE: I checked out the vote and all thirty memebers went on record. Every Democrat voted against it, joined by Nancy Barto, Rich Crandall, Adam Driggs, Jerry Lewis, John McComish, John Nelson, Michelle Reagan and Marszałek Senatu Steve Pierce. Names like McComish and Crandall aren’t a big surprise. Barto changed her vote to “no” so she could move to reconsider the bill later (she amended the bill in an attempt to make it palatable). Pierce wasn’t comfortable with the bill, but is probably happy that he wasn’t the deciding vote. A big surprise to me is Nelson, but I’ve been told that he had expressed reservations about this bill over the last couple of days.
