VoteVets.org PAC, an organization representing Iraq and Afghanistan vets, has given its endorsement to Marine Corps veteran Ruben Gallego, who is running for the State House in Phoenix. He is only one of three state-level candidates to get their endorsement this year. Press release after the jump.

The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets.org PAC, today endorsed fellow veteran Ruben Gallego in his race for State House.

“Ruben is truly one of the rising stars in the veterans community, and is a bright, incisive leader who will bring a certain skill set to serving his district,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran, and Chairman of VoteVets.org PAC. “He has shown a commitment to service, both in the military and the public arena. In short, he has dedicated his life towards helping and fighting for others, and that will make him an exemplary State Representative.”

Ruben Gallego is the son of two Hispanic immigrants. He was the first in his family to attend college when he was admitted to Harvard and majored in International Relations. Ruben graduated Harvard with a degree in International Relations and was the recipient of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American studies grant.

To fulfill his call to duty and country Ruben joined the Marine Corps Reserve in August 2000 and served up to August 2008. He was activated twice. First in 2003, Ruben served in Operation Noble Eagle and spent six month is Okinawa, Japan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2005, he was activated with Delta 4th Recon and attached to Lima 3/25. Lima 3/25 was involved in some of the hardest combat of the Iraq War. Ruben still remains close to his fellow Marines and is involved in many Veteran Causes.

Ruben also sits on the board of Valley Citizens League, the Children’s Museum, and is Chair of the Nucleus club. He was recently named by the Phoenix Business Journal as one of Phoenix’s 40 people under the age of 40 that are leading the way in Phoenix. Ruben recently was the Chief of Staff for Councilman Michael Nowakowski. He was responsible for crafting the councilman’s economic development and education policy.

VoteVets.org PAC aims to elect veterans to public office, with a particular focus on Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans.
