Mitchell Hacked!

Shortly after the State of the Union address, several congressional web sites apparently attacked by Brazillian hackers. Among the group of 26 members of the house whose sites were hacked was our own Harry Mitchell. According to the site Praetorian Prefect (Ford’s brother, I guess), the sites were hacked by a group called Red Eye Crew. Previously, Red Eye Crew took down government sites in Brazil and the University of Virginia.

This doesn’t have a partisan motive as members from both parties were hit.

The folks at Praetorian Prefect say this may be due to a flaw in the software used by those particular offices, but they point out that others that use it (it’s called Joomla) were not hit. They name Arizona’s Ann Kirkpatrick as one that escaped being hit even though she uses Joomla.

As of this writing, the text that the hackers put up on Mitchell’s page has been replaced with a generic congressional “Site Maintenance” page.

One of the things Ford Prefect had always found hardest to understand about humans was their habit of continually stating and repeating the very very obvious, as in “It’s a nice day,” or “You’re very tall,” or “Oh dear you seem to have fallen down a thirty-foot well, are you alright?” At first Ford had formed a theory to account for this strange behaviour. If human beings don’t keep exercising their lips, he thought, their mouths probably seize up. After a few months’ consideration and observation he abandoned this theory in favour of a new one: If they don’t keep on exercising their lips, he thought, their brains start working.

Harry deserves worse than this for his support of the continuation of the Bush tax cuts. I’ve looked the other way with many of his votes, but this is pushing me over the edge. He’s clearly pandering to the wealthy in NO Scottsdale, but it’s irresponsible.
