Right Priorities
Don’t worry about the sky metaphorically falling. A few of our legislators think there are other pressing issues deserving of attention.
Judy Burgess thinks that the biggest crisis is that there are non-”natural born” Americans scheming to get Arizona’s electoral votes. She wants candidates, and who she means here is Barack Obama, to prove that he was born in Hawaii and that he isn’t some product of a decades long Kenyan-Indonesian-Hawaiian-Islamofascist-Cubist conspiracy to elect a slightly left of center president.
Word to Judy and her cohorts: Obama was born in the United States, and no matter how loudly you shout otherwise, it has been proven on numerous occasions. Short of Obama knocking on Burges’s door and presenting her with a birth certificate, notarized statement from his mom’s OBGYN and a VHS tape of the birth, she and her ilk will not be satisfied with that. It is obvious from Howard Fischer’s piece on the legislation that the actual facts of Obama’s birth aren’t Burges’s real problem, it’s with his politics. Having a set of opinions that disagree with hers is enough to make your status as an American questionable.
Burges also has a resolution to declare a Ronald Reagan day. I hear he was born in County Antrim. Let Burges prove otherwise.
The other ultra pressing issue that will be addressed is allowing guns on our college campuses. This bill is the brainchild of the ever level headed Jack Harper. Message to students: we’ll increase your tuition by $2000, cancel classes that you need to graduate and those classes you do have, well, we’ll pack you into Centennial Hall with a few thousand other students, but, you can carry a gun. Now, don’t you feel better about that diploma you’re gonna get?
Jack, do you really want thousands of armed and angry college students out there?

I haven’t seen Judy Burgess’ birth certificate, driver’s license, or passport. How do I know she is not a Canadian citizen? Maybe she’s from Colorado or New Mexico and is just masquerading as an Arizonan.
I believe she should make these records public. The voters of Arizona have a right to know!

You’d think the GOP could just focus on their quest to fix the budget by cutting taxes and—what is it today, protecting the payday loan industry?—without racist conspiracy theories competing for the spotlight with student gun rights, etc.
At this point The Daily Show could probably just employ a permanent Arizona Legislature correspondent.

an embarrassment to Arizona, nay, an embarrassment to America, nay an embarassment to patriotism, as she wishes to undermine the President, I suspect of Rep. Burges of being a terrorist sympathizer, and a person who does not love Jesus. She should be tried for high treason. The entire city of Skull Valley should be embarrassed for having to claim her.
