Knockout Stage
Okay, okay, I forgot about Bruce Babbitt. Hard to forget about the guy, since he was governor from when I was seven until well into my High School years. Fred DuVal will, no doubt, have a penance prepared for me that will involve a hairshirt and reruns of the 1988 Democratic primary debates.
And yes Adam, no Sam Coppersmith. But he has his own blog where he can get his revenge by neglecting to include me on a list.
Truth to tell, I enjoy the discussion about who should have been included. It’s part of why I did this thing in the first place.
Anyway, you all can vote in the first knock out stage. Voting will be open until noon tomorrow. Interesting match-ups include Mo Udall vs Ed Pastor and Kyrsten Sinema vs John McCain. No matter who wins that one, Sinema will look fabulous.

I’ve been reading along for a while now. I just wanted to drop you a comment to say keep up the good work.

Ted – The violation certainly doesn’t justify a rerun of the 88 debates. Yikes…too severe! But I would note, at the expense of over-beating the horse, that Babbitt is the 2nd longest serving Governor in AZ history, with a record I’ve noted, and hasn’t yet made the ADP Hall of Fame. So you are in good company!

I beg to differ, Mr. DuVal (D-Tucson). Your former boss could be considered the longest serving Governor in Arizona history. Sure, George W.P. Hunt (D-Globe) served for nearly 14 years as Governor, but his terms were non-consecutive. His longest continuous service was 7 years (1923-1929)
In contrast, Bruce Babbitt (D-Flagstaff) served 8 years, 9 months as Governor. His nearest competition in this regard is “One Eyed Jack” Williams (R-Phoenix 40), who served for a mere 8 years.
It should be noted that none of these individuals made the cut for consideration in the WCAP. This calls for gnashing of teeth and rending of garments.

Well, Fred,
why don’t you, like NOMINATE him for the ADP hall of fame next year? As far as I know he hasn’t been nominated in awhile (not that I’m privvy to everyone who has.)
Sort of like the guy who keeps complaining that he never wins the lottery, and then says he won’t buy any more tickets until he wins.

If we’re going to lament who was left off the list, I’d like to second the regrets about leaving off Sam Coppersmith and suggest that his frequent debate partner Stan Barnes would have been a good addition as well. Perhaps the next competition could focus on wit; understandably, Arizonans seem to have a particular knack for gallows humor.

FYI – would not let me vote in matches 5, 6, 7 or 8. I want a refund!
