McCain: Do as I Say, Not as I Said

John McCain took to the floor yesterday to take on the health care plan. He has proposed an amendment to get rid of changes to Medicare designed to save money, changes he says amount to cuts. Okay, he can argue that, ‘cept…well…this is from the Wall Street Journal last October 6:

McCain would pay for his health plan with major reductions to Medicare and Medicaid, a top aide said, in a move that independent analysts estimate could result in cuts of $1.3 trillion over 10 years to the government programs. The Republican presidential nominee has said little about the proposed cuts, but they are needed to keep his health-care plan ‘budget neutral,’ as he has promised…Sen. McCain must fill a huge budget hole — which the campaign says will come from cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.

That $1.3 Trillion is two and a half times larger than the savings (what McCain is terming “cuts”) in the current senate bill, by the way.
