Verschoor Caves, Burns Gets 16
Well, it passed. Thayer Verschoor, who was so steadfastly against the budget bill that he didn’t show up, gave an apology to the Senate for all the trouble he caused and voted for the bill. One railbird texted me to tell me that he thought that Bob Burns used the fact that he could find the votes from Democrats as leverage to move Verschoor. Basically, if you aren’t with us, I can find a few Dems and pass a bill even less to your liking. No Democrat voted for the bill, but it passed with the bare 16 votes.
UPDATE: Voting has commenced on the bill in the house, and it is well on its way to passing.

The Sinemacrats remain uncooperative. The Governor was right to exclude them from budget talks. They have done nothing but say “no” to the Majority’s well thought out program of across-the-board cuts. In these tough times, our public schools, universites, law enforcement, users of state highways, and the indigent have to be made to learn to live within their means like everyone else.
Get a grip. The gravy train stops here. It is time to think about the taxpayer. for. a. change.

Which means, frankly,
that a handful of wavering Democrats were used, and still didn’t get what they wanted.
Old lesson again:
Stick with your leadership. If Sen. Burns wants the votes of Democrats then he needs to talk about it with the Democratic leadership team. Either he works out something that can get twelve Democratic votes, or he should have zero Democratic votes.
I’m not even in the legislature but I do know that much about how things work. Unity, guys!
