Exit this Roman Shell!
Marszałek Senatu Bob Burns is angry with Senador Thayer Verschoor, who didn’t show up for Thursday’s extra special session. Burns was so angry with Verschoor that he…tweeted!
Pique is best when done in 140 character segments, I always say.
The funny part about this is that Verschoor was a solid “no” vote, so the results are about the same. This did, however give Burns the chance to make the statement about how disappointed he is and deflect a wee bit of attention from the fact that he didn’t have the votes to make this work.
Another notable absence: Jan Brewer. La Cervecera was at the Republican Governors Association meeting in Texas. Yes, I’m grown up enough to know that state government doesn’t come to a screeching halt just because she leaves the state (although, how could you tell?). Given how much of a priority she claims this is, you’d think she could skip out on hobnobbing with Haley Barbour and show the “leadership” that the Republic editorial board claims she demonstrates with every thought and deed.
(The next editorial is already written, I’m sure: Brewer leaving the state shows she’s got “Moxie.”)
So…the three day session is extended until Monday, at least (notice they never said Earth days? Three days on Mercury would take us through May). Who knows if Verschoor will show up, but Jim Waring has a vacation planned. They might actually need to, you know, talk to a Democrat or two and -gasp- form a consensus.
NB – Arizona Bill designed by Bob Richards.

Well, we only pay the legislators $24,000 per year, it’s supposed to be a part-time job, remember? Plus, we make sure that any of them that stick around long enough to actually know what they are doing, are term-limited out and have to be replaced by people with no experience.
So our state government, with a budget in the billions of dollars and providing services for millions and employing tens of thousands, is made up of part-time amateurs with little or no experience.
Hmmm…. Another great idea we imported from California (and how is it working for them, by the way?)

Barbara Leff is, off course, cruisin’ the Caribbean, a precedent set by Vershoor and Chuck Gray.
