And Another Thing…
Both I and Jim Nintzel had our little rants on the Star’s editorial last week that condemned those citizens that dared organize a Facebook group to express their feelings about the direction of Downtown development.
I had a thought: let’s think back to the late 1960’s when “urban renewal” was all the rage. Dozens of businesses and hundreds of homes between Cushing and Congress were bulldozed in the name of “progress.” This hollowed out Downtown. Businesses in the surviving part of Downtown suffered since many of their former customers now lived miles away, or were cut off from them by the newly built I-10 freeway. Downtown has only now begun to recover from the “renewal.”
My question is this: wouldn’t it have been nice for people to have been able to express themselves, to give even the cranks a chance to say “hold on a second” back then?
