Cry Me a Freakin’ River, Part 2

And the whining doesn’t stop. This from RedState:

Earlier this evening, as most of you now know, one of our own, Rush Hudson Limbaugh, while taking withering fire, crashed and burned.

Tonight, Rush is no longer ‘just’ a radio personality.

Tonight, Rush is no longer ‘just’ a NFL owner denied

Tonight, Rush is us. And we are him.

Tonight Rush became the metaphor for all of us… every man woman and child in this great nation of ours.

The enemy of this great nation, the enemy of you and me, Rush’s enemy… those on the left, inside and outside of this nation abhor success… and when faced with it will destroy it… by any and all means possible.

We all have our dreams in life… such as they might be. Rush dreamed of being an owner in the NFL.

Tonight the left proved that they will stop at nothing to end our dreams. Our dreams of success and happiness devastate their need to dominate and control you and me… and well everything and everyone.

If you dare, read the full post and you will be treated to a conservative blogger quoting Martin Niemöller (Yeah, the folks at RedState would really give a hoot if they came for the trade unionists). You’d almost think that Limbaugh’s bid, a longshot according to most analysts, was derailed by ACORN, the ACLU and Media Matters, rather than the NFL owners, who are a group of rather conservative businessmen. Limbaugh’s dream of NFL ownership (no, not dream, birthright, apparently) was scuttled when St. Louis Blues and Real Salt Lake owner Dave Checketts dropped him from the ownership group. Checketts and his family have given to Democrats in the past, but the last one was in 2003 and those are dwarfed by the tens of thousands he gave to both John McCain’s campaign and the RSCC last year.

Victimized by liberals? Hardly.

  • The issue here is not that Limbaugh doesn’t have the right to spend his money on what he wants, including an NFL team.

It’s his past comments. And I’m not even talking about his comments more generally about race (the Constitution does give you the right to be a racist and to speak your mind about it.)

It’s his past comments specifically about race and quarterbacks (this impacts directly on the ownership.) For most people the issue of black quarterbacks was put to rest when Doug Williams led the Washington Redskins to Super Bowl XXII where they destroyed the Denver Broncos. But apparently Limbaugh must have missed that one, because he still has issues with black quarterbacks, believing that the media has pushed them into starting positions that they haven’t earned.

I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve.

(that’s the one that got him kicked off of Monday night football.)

    Or consider this one:

That the media had jumped all over Chicago quarterback Rex Grossman two years ago before the Super Bowl “wanted a white quarterback to fail.”

Limbaugh amazingly said this on February 5, 2007, the day after the Bears lost the Super Bowl to the quotes and Grossman had proven the media right by throwing two big interceptions along with a fumble that pretty much handed the game to the Colts. But to Limbaugh it was all about race.

Now, suppose that you are a black quarterback who wants to sign with the Rams and you are competing for a contract with a white quarterback. If Limbaugh is part of the ownership team, do you honestly believe that you will be evaluated on your merits or because of the owner’s belief that you are ‘overrated’ because of your skin color?

THAT’S the real reason he should not be a team owner.

  • whoops, ‘lost the Super Bowl to the Colts’ not the ‘quotes.’

  • First they came for the racists…

then they came for the Oxycontin addicted sex-junketeers…

  • I was really looking forward to kicking his ass twice a year in something other than elections. Oh well. His anguish sustains me.

  • When George Soros tried to buy part of the Washington Nationals a few years ago, MLB turned him down for being “too polarizing”. Oddly enough, I didn’t see any complaints about that on RW blogs.

Seriously, I think what drove Rush’s anger on his show today is that the NFL owners who rejected him are probably just as conservative as he is and they SHUNNED him because he’s bad for their business. It was about MONEY. Despite his millions of braindead followers, ad revenue, and the GOP kissing his ass, the NFL didn’t want him.

  • they shunned him because he is full on Jester’s footwear, zapatos de payaso, and other terrific synonyms for clown shoes and metaphors for ridiculous. He is a ridiculous person who says ridiculous things who has zero integrity. In Pro Sports, the illusion of integrity is paramount, and a Limbaugh ownership would compromise that. And also becasue he is fat lying windbag who is a false patriot and a detriment to the United States of America’s survival. He makes every one of his country look bad in the eyes of the world. The world would be at least twice as better if he never existed.

  • Maybe he could play O-line for them instead. He’s already morbidly obese and addicted to pain killers. And let’s face it — he couldn’t make that team any worse.
