What Was Weak Last Week
More stuff I missed out on writing about last week after the jump.
- Tim Pawlenty apparently wants to be called “TPaw” now. That’s because if he adopts a faux “hip hop” name, all those under-35s who voted for Barack Obama will forget all the questions about policy and think that he is cool…or “tight” as those crazy kids say these days. There is no truth to the rumor that Mike Huckabee wants to be called “M-Loc”
- The folks at Sonoran Alliance published a piece defending Charles Jensen and Michael Williams, whose names appeared on a list of clients of the infamous Desert Divas service. Funny thing: in the Sonoran Alliance piece, Williams denies that that is his address, while in other sources, such as Yellow Sheet, Williams says that’s his address, but that someone else put it there. Arizona Guardian had a piece last week on clients quietly dropping Williams, and several Republicans have distanced themselves from Jensen.
- Anyone notice the latest piece from the pro-200 folks? They are decrying 8 minute response times, even though the national standards their proposal seeks to meet calls for just that.
- So, let me get this straight: Republican talkers were rooting against the US hosting the Olympics in 2016 just because of who the President is? Oh, by the way, hands up for all y’all that think that George W. Bush would have sat back and done nothing had Houston been on the list durring his term. Didn’t think so.
- Our own John McComish got quoted in an article in Politico:
Arizona House Majority Leader John McComish said Palin should hit the books in an effort to dispel fears that she is unfit for the presidency. McComish called them the “Katie Couric issues,” a reference to Palin’s widely viewed and often-panned interview with the CBS News anchor last September.
If I recall, those questions Katie Couric asked included such toughies as “What magazines do you read?” The entire article left me with the question: if the woman still needs to bone up on issues, why did y’all think she was ready to be that close to being President last year?
- And finally, this bit from Republican Ward 5 candidate Shaun McClusky, quoted in the Tucson Weekly regarding where the money to pay for 200 will come from:
I think there’s enough money in the budget to go around to everybody and not have to cut anything. You wouldn’t have to reduce services, nor would you have to raise fees, nor would you have to raise taxes. We need to streamline the budget.
Yep, “streamlining” will pay the hundreds of millions necessary to fund Prop. 200, even with the current budget woes that the city is dealing with. Goshagolly, why didn’t anyone else think of that?

Houston getting the Olympics. That’s funny.
