In This Case, More than a Metaphor
Greg Patterson over at Espresso Pundit managed to get law enforcement officials to release the list of clients from an infamous prostitution ring that was busted up in Phoenix. Sketchy details of the list were released back in February, but Patterson has the complete list and he posted it.
One caller wanted to point out to me that Phoenix über-lobbyist Mike Williams was on the list. I went and checked, and in fact there is a Mike Williams with an address listed that matches Williams’s office. The scuttlebutt at the capitol is that Williams has expressed his nervousness about his name being on the list since the story first broke.
Williams was the lobbyist behind the Alt-Fuel scandal and had waged a years long battle to get sparklers legalized in the state. One capitol observer I talked to referred to him as a “bottom feeder,” taking clients other lobbyists didn’t want to represent.
One interesting question: were these women hired for Williams own use, or were they a creative adjunct to his lobbying? Wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened.

Mike Williams really hurts lobbyists with his actions. How proud is he to be on this list of clients?

I think that Ted’s question is a good one though.
Think about it– if a really sleazy lobbyist gets a legislator a hooker, then he’s got the legislator by the balls (literally) because he can always threaten to expose the whole thing.
Now that Williams has been exposed, I wonder how many legislators might be worrying about whether he will sing to save his own skin.
And given this guy’s reputation, they probably have reason to worry.

The whole irony of the recent scandal that’s erupted over Desert Divas is that I bet Espresso Pundit was hoping to find the names of some big Democrats or media figures…
And not that name that’s currently being bandied about over at Sonoran Alliance.
I probably wouldn’t have even heard about this had it not been for SA… thanks, dimwits!
