It Would Make Parking at Ben’s Events Easier
Yep, I haven’t posted the videos from last night yet. YouTube was having problems and I was unable to upload the videos. One of the things that you’ll see are comments from Chief Roberto “Taz” Villaseñor. Chief Villaseñor prefaces his comments with the disclaimer that he, as an official representative of the police department, can’t take an official stand in a city election. He’s correct, and it would be inappropriate for a candidate to claim the endorsement of the department.
That doesn’t stop one Ben Buehler-García from claiming that the “Tucson Police Department” is sponsoring his fundraiser this weekend at the Dragon’s View Restaurant (interestingly, the same place where the Democrats of Greater Tucson holds its weekly meeting).
Yeah, I’m sure it is just a mistake rather than an attempt to decieve the voters (the Tucson Police Officers Association endorsed Buehler-García and I’d imagine they are a more likely sponsor), but geez, guys, the thing has been up there since last Thursday. So, we are left with either an innocent mistake (which the campaign has been too careless to fix), or…well…
Of more importance is something left off of the website. He doesn’t have the “Paid for by…” disclaimer on the site. Now, it is pretty darned obvious who is paying for the site, but still it is required by state law. Again, probably an innocent mistake, but none the less, sloppy.
UPDATE: In the hours since this was posted, Buehler-García’s campaign has changed the endorsement language and added the “Paid for by…” disclaimer. This leads me to wonder what else I can make the Republican candidates do.
