That Statement is No Longer Operative

Trent FranksRemember when I gave Trent Franks some props for not buying into this birther nonsense? I take it all back. Here is Franks quoted in Politico:

Taking the birther thing to a new level, archconservative Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) is considering filing a lawsuit to put President Obama on the spot over his birth documents, according to a Mohave Daily News readout of a Franks town hall over the weekend.

Geez.

  • Of course, you realize that to believe this nonsense, you have to believe that the plot to make Barack Obama the President in 2008 was hatched within hours after his birth, and he was put on an express flight out of Mombasa and an announcement was placed in the Honolulu paper just to fool people who might be looking into it 47 years later.

Yeah, some people actually do believe that.

The idea that some of them might be in Congress writing laws that the rest of us have to adhere to is beyond scary.

  • Hey Ted, I think Congressman Franks is a pure genius,
your friend, the dining table lady who got owned by Barney Frank

  • Of what planet does he spend most of his time on!?

  • I wish I had something snarky to say but I don’t…

Trent Franks is an idiot. Maybe I should go to his town hall with an assault rifle strapped to my back, a poster characterizing him as Mussolini, and demand to see his birth certificate. Or is that over the top? [note: I would never condone such actions]

    R!

Franks didn’t actually say anything of the sort. He actually rebuffed the assertion at a townhall in Mohave County, mentioning the newspaper announcement of Obama’s birth. He then said it would take some pretty compelling evidence before he would consider it.

I guess since he left the door open to pandering, that got him in the news.

  • I’m curious to see what kind of activist judge sides with the ‘Official Records’ and ‘Evidence’ presented by the Obama side.

That shouldn’t cause too much of a problem, right?

  • What a nut ball!!! Why am I stuck with Harper in the Leg and Franks in my CD? Why oh Why!

  • VWgal:

You should run against Harper next year. It may be a Republican precinct but if this year hasn’t given anyone who plans to run against him all the ammunition they need to go after him (even Republican voters dont’ like being played for fools) then nothing will.

  • VWgal,

I would move if I were you.

  • krajmajales:

No joke about moving. I have two very bright eighth graders (twins.)

With the way that the state GOP has been going after higher ed in this state, and with universities having doubled tuition in the past few years, and with the proposal to cut back the AIMS scholarships for high achievers to the point where they will only be able to receive enough aid so that their tuition would be about what it would have been without earning a scholarship before all of this started (which means still pretty high, especially for two) myself and my wife have had a couple of serious discussions about moving out of state someplace so they can graduate from a high school where they will qualify for a more reasonable in-state tuition rate at the universities in that state.

There’s still time (as I said they are in eighth grade right now) and I’d hate to have to leave the state over something like that, but it is a serious discussion we’ve had.

True I’m a Democratic activist but I’ve never made any decision on where to live based on the political realities of the state and if I do it now, it would be for my kids. But I bet I and my wife are not the only parents in Arizona who are having the same kinds of discussions.

  • Eli,

I will be honest with you, you will see tuition go up massively here. The Universities have no other alternative now and are planning as much in tuition raises as they can. They are fed up with the state and now simply want to control their own destiny. The focus is now on offering more programs at higher cost and creating education as a marketable product where each student brings in the revenue.

There is no other choice. Our state funds have continued to decrease over and over and over. The U of A, for instance, is now down to below 10% of its funding from the state.

Look at the Constitution. It states that the state will provide for the funding for higher education. It is clear. The provision has been violated over and over.

So if the state and its taxpayers won’t provide what it is constitutionally mandated to do, then tuition must raise…it is that simple.

I could say much much much more here. But I am bitter enough now to simply say “you asked for this, this is what you are getting.”
