A Bit on the Mess Palin Left for her Successor…
Jump to Comments
This article is over a month old, but I saw it linked on another blog. I guess it could be said that it is proof of P. J. O’Rourke’s maxim that Republicans say that government is incompetent and they get elected to prove it.
Here is the money quote:
In one 2 1/2 year stretch, 227 adults already getting services died while waiting for a nurse to reassess their needs. Another 27 died waiting for their initial assessment, to see if they qualified for help.
Makes you wonder if Palin’s talk about a “death panel” is a little bit of projection.

This is actually a good example of why the government (any government) should not be running health care. Government is not an efficient and effective provider of services.

“Government is not an efficient and effective provider of services.” Fascinating! “Government” provides both Medicare and Medicaid, both of which have incredibly low administrative costs (3% for medicare). Health insurance for all congresspersons, federal employees and retirees who chose to retain their coverage (choice available if you have been a government employee for at least 5 years) is a single payer, government-run program. I have yet to hear suggestions by people with those coverages that they don’t want them.
As a Federal retiree, I am covered by that plan. I select my own Dr. and no insurance company tells my doctor what kind of care they will permit me to have – that decision remains between me and my Dr. I don’t understand what is wrong with extending these plans to the rest of the citizens of our country who would have excellent care, no meddling in their care by insurance companies, whose primary concern is not an enrolee’s health but their bottom line (profit).
