I woke up this way too early morning to the awful whine of what I think was a low flying plane over my neighborhood. Having no way to fall back asleep, I went online and found out what many of you know by now: the deal passed the House, but can’t pass the Senate. For some reason, this failed to shock me.
A few minutes ago, this came through the transom (Radio Free Europe…) from Terry Goddard’s office:
The Legislature and Governor have, once again, failed in their most basic constitutional duty – passing a balanced budget. This gridlock just makes Arizona’s economic situation worse and reveals a total lack of leadership at the Capitol.
By the way: anyone figured out yet at what point these guys are violating the constitution by not passing a balanced budget?

When was it official, hard to say. The state constitution requires them to have a balanced budget, which technically they passed on
July 1June 30th (+1). At that point, AZ didn’t have a balanced budget, even with the stuff passed at the beginning of the ‘special session’.Perhaps it is time for people to file a complaint with the AG’s office against the leg for violating the constitution. Not sure if it would get anywhere, but somethings gotta happen.
Yes, but the budget they were voting on was bad bad bad. I hope that since they didn’t have enough votes, they will go back to their bipartisan talks and get a better budget passed. Wishful thinking…?
