Amazing

I was up there for four hours yesterday, and saw little that had to do with passing the actual budget. After I left, I got word that the senate was tackling the sticky and very important issues surrounding scrap metal dealers. Glad that this crowd had their priorities straight.

When we left last night, a group of lobbyists was in the parking lot, having an impromptu party with beer and Bob Seger music (the chosen artist of people who think they are rocking out). They were the only people who had anything to celebrate.

  • THAT…pisses me off. If ever we wondered just WHO our legislators represented…now we know.

  • I saw them too. Isn’t drinking in public illegal?

  • Yeah, they were there with the beer when I got there, but hadn’t yet started the Bob Seeger. I guess the security was too busy trying to lock the doors to address the illegal activity in the parking lot.

  • Donnna,

I think one of the COW amendments allowed for lobbyists of the ruling party to celebrate publicly in any manner they so chose. Also included is a provision saying that $30, per week, be taken from the education money for a ‘B double E double R UN’. Looks important enough for me.

(please note the the sarcasm may be a bit thick)

    This is unbelieveable.

No pics of the guilty? Spring for a camera phone, Tedski.

  • Todd, I had my cellphone in my hand when I walked by them but I was tired, my throat hurt, and I just wanted to get home. I didn’t even think to snap a photo of them and I’m kicking myself for it. You know if a bunch of lobbyists for liberal causes was doing the same thing and any of our local rightie bloggers walked by they’d have been snapping photos like crazy and there’d be pearl-clutching about it all over Sonoran Alliance and Espresso Pundit.

  • Hey, maybe they were the lobbyists for the scrap metal industry! That was why they were celebrating so hard when you walked by.

  • Arizona gubernatorial candidate, John Paul Mitchell, states that were the Arizona government a major corporation, the budget crisis we are currently facing would have resulted in the firing of responsible executives and managers by the Board of Directors, with the stockholders up in arms.

As a citizen and candidate for governor, Mitchell has been left displeased, frustrated, and questioning the legislative leaders responsible for the budget deal stalemate. As a result, he’s taking the budget crisis to you, opening himself up to receiving comments, questions and concerns about the current budget ordeal, vowing to read and respond to every email he receives in his inbox.

  • Yes, I passed them on my way out. I was carrying the tools of my trade – clipboards, tubs of water bottles, picket signs, and letters to the governor asking for a veto. As I passed them (I know most of them) I thought, “hmmm, maybe I should have taken the easy way out, hid out in the halls and cut some deals to limit the damage, knowing what a crazy legislature we had.” That is what they all did – so they could be sure to celebrate a successful session. I thought about that all night. Then I woke up this morning saw the governor’s veto and realized our strategy of “going for it” was the right thing to do. By the way, the security at the capitol told me they appreciated our demonstrations, although they did have to enforce the House and Senate rules. Victory smells sweet today, but Monday the real work begins.

  • Great work Doug and AEA!

  • I know everyone is tired and bitter…but why take shots at Bob SEGER? As a 45-year old former Midwesterner, I’ll always love the guy. Besides, listening to “Turn the Page” at high volume would inspire anyone preparing to take on their foes. And, given his blue collar heritage, I bet Seger is a lifelong Democrat!

  • Rex-

Fixed the spelling. Okay, true of “Turn the Page,” but they were playing “Old Time Rock N’ Roll.”
