Just got word that the senate rules committee just killed the sales tax referendum. Remember the tax was a key part of the deal to assure the governor’s signature.

  • Yep. And I’ve asked several people at the Capitol, including Dem legislators, what happens if that’s the case. Their response is usually something like “we’re hosed”.

  • It’s unfortunate, we just need to keep beating the same drum and let people know that Republicans control practically every office in our state government and still can’t pass a budget.

What a mess. Even my hard R buddies are having a tough time explaining this one.

    Rrrr!

  • “Republicans control practically every office in our state government and still can’t pass a budget.”

  • I hope (despite the difficulties that a government shutdown will bring) that the Governor sticks to her guns and vetoes the budget.

Clearing the table and sitting down and starting all over again with whoever is willing to sit and talk is a better option that swallowing the pure manure that is coming out of the legislature here at the end of the session.

  • If the government shuts down long enough, won’t they save enough money to fill the budget gap?

I think the real winners here are the Libertarians.

    Arizona’s goin’ Galt!

No way there. If the state government shuts down for a while, people aren’t going to be getting unemployment checks. CPS will stop operating. So will APS. Businesses will not be able to get a lot of routine business done. Schools that operate during the summer will suddenly be without state contacts. ADOT will stop working. People will notice. You cannot come up with a bigger loser for the Libertarians than that.

  • “Republicans control practically every office in our state government and still can’t pass a budget.”

THAT is the spirit everyone. THIS is what this all is about. They have control, they cannot function, they cannot govern, they cannot solve their own problems, let alone Arizona’s problems.

  • With apologies that I keep posting this, but THIS is the solution…at least one person. Give me more names of who we should be supporting NOW to get these people back into the private sector, where they seem to want to be anyway!

If you hate what this legislature is doing then take action. The only way to improve this state is to take the House and Senate. We have to pull together and support candidates directly around the state who are running….district by district.

Here is a start. Go to Cheryl Cage’s webpage and donate. She is going for a rematch against Al Melvin in District 26, a seat that is very vulnerable. It will take cash to pick this one up., so donate now.

If others have candidates around the state in other districts, do send along. If I donate, and you donate, and we pull together, we can do this.

  • Donna,
“going Galt” implies some measure of competence in those who would take their ball and leave. None of the Republicans in this (or most) states have shown ANY amount of competence.

  • “None of the Republicans.. have shown any… competence”

I think you are forgetting Arlen Specter… wait, I don’t think that works anymore.

  • I know, Andy. That’s why Galt is a fictitious character. No Republican or Libertarian can come up with a real-life example of a John Galt.

  • Can they reassign it to the education committee also???????

  • Suspend the rules matee! Alee!
