Chain Driven Wallet, Above Ground Pool…

I’m trying to run down a rumor that Jim Pederson is not running for governor. I’m pretty sure many of you are hearing the rumors too. As soon as I have stronger confirmation, I’ll let all y’all know.

Arizona Guardian’s twitter about 30 seconds ago: “Jim Pederson has decided not to run for Governor”

  • This is one of those times when I cannot figure out what the title of your post is about. It’s not a gratuitous music reference so I’m completely lost.

  • I’m with Donna.. WTF does it mean….

  • These are the kinds of rumors that get flown about while watching soccer games, I am sure!

  • Arizona gaurdian has it on their twitter… I think it is real

  • What a tease from the guardian to put it on twitter and then not have a story ready

  • Yellow Sheet is reporting this too.

  • From the Guardian:

Pederson, who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in 2006, had been considered a front-runner for the nomination but says he doesn’t have the time to commit to a statewide campaign.

“I’m closing the door on this,” said Pederson, who added there was almost no chance he would reconsider his decision. “I want to spend more time with the grandchildren and my wife and I have entered a new phase in our lives.

“Considered a front-runner for the nomination.” When, and by who?

Maybe he did some polling and realized it wasn’t worth his time or money to fight an uphill battle against Terry. Don’t get me wrong, I think Jim and Terry would both be great Governors, I just see this as Terry’s time to get it (finally).

This is just bizarre though, I wonder if Jim will run for anything else. I have a sneaking suspicion he may.

  • Pederson was not the “front runner”, Terry Goddard is. Not surprising that Pederson would drop out so early, as he didn’t have much charisma in that race against U.S. Senator Kyl.

  • Thank goodness! Clear the field for Terry, let the blood on the floor be Brewer’s (OK, not literal blood!)

  • just heard the rumor at lunch today…any ideas as to what was offered in exchange for him setting aside his plans?

Speaking of which, tedski, the Rev. will be at Club Congress July 3rd, if you’re so inclined (and if they still have tickets)

  • This paves the way for a quality Republican like Jeff Flake or John Shadegg. Both of these men have had accomplished careers standing up for conservative values in the U.S. Congress and have reputations for reaching across the isle and working on a bipartisan basis. I took an informal poll among my friends at my district club and we all agreed that either Flake or Shadegg would win a general election hands down.

What this state really needs right now is Republican leadership! Four more years of Goddard’s leadership will just lead us further along on the current path of stagnation that the Sinemacrats have been giving us for decades.

I dont think the field is cleared for Terry, I think the field is cleared for Phil Gordon to run now… Now I am not saying I think he will, but he can most likely raise a lot of money and therefore can compete.

  • What, no comment about U.S. beating Spain 2-nil?

This does not clear the field for Flake or Shadegg. The GOP has proven both on the national and on the state level that they are utterly incapable of governing.

  • Flake made it clear the other day that he is waiting for a Senate seat to open up, and Shadegg (who nearly retired before the 2008 house race) is plainly tired.

  • Shadegg isn’t tired. His rhetoric, however, is quite tired.

  • Republitard, I just adore the word Sinemacrat. If I join that party do I get a bunch of cool new shoes?

  • I thought about the 2010 race as I was on a long trek from Goodyear to Central Phoenix this morning. I wondered if Jeff Flake is really that formidable if he decides to run for Governor, or Senator for that matter. Does anyone know who he is outside of the East Valley of Maricopa? No, really. Take off your political junkie and/or Fourth Generation Arizonian hat and consider that a good percentage of the people in this state moved here within the past decade and they don’t know the Flake family name from a hole in the ground. He’ll still be a hard candidate to beat but he ain’t all that.
