In response to Marty Schultz saying the leadership was in “hot and heavy negotiations” said [John] Kavanagh “in my experience what usually comes out of hot and heavy anything is unwanted children”
Just got word that the senate rules committee just killed the sales tax referendum. Remember the tax was a key part of the deal to assure the governor’s signature.
One bill lost in the prop wash of the budget debacle is SB1157, which would continue the Department of Environmental Quality. The bill is still sitting in the rules committee, and has to go through caucus, committee of the whole and 3rd read by midnight tonight or -poof- no more ADEQ.

Something important to remember about yesterday’s events at the legislature: after Russell Pearce’s embarasment about not being able to get the budget bills through his committee, they shopped until they found one that could pass the bills, the education committee.
