How Do You Solve a Problem Like Huckabee?

People are still jumping on that poor Mike Huckabee for refering to Sonia Sotomayor as “María Sotomayor.” I don’t think this shows any racism on Huckabee’s part. It could be that the only Puertoriqueñas he’s had experience with are from his viewing of West Side Story and old episodes of Sesame Street.

At least he didn’t call her: Maria Consuelo Concepcion de Jesusa. Cuz that’s what’s on all our birth (um, excuse me, Batptismal) certificates. It’s on mine. But there were too many Maria Consuelo Concepcion de Jesusas in kindergarten so the teacher decided to call me Laura instead. It just stuck.
