Here We Go Again?

Janet NapolitanoAs many of you know, Janet Napolitano is being mentioned as a possible nominee to replace David Souter. The crew over at First Read are hinting that she may have an inside track, but whether this is based on insider knowledge or just pundits trying to say something interesting is hard to tell.

Should she get appointed, it end the dreams of many a Democrat that predicted that she would run for the US Senate in 2012, or even 2010.

What is also interesting is that Ken Salazar has been mentioned. If this happens, it has the possibility of shaking up Southern Arizona politics. Should Salazar get appointed, that would open up his spot at Interior for the guy that he barely edged out for the job…Raúl Grijalva. For those of you who remember those heady days of January, everybody with any standing in local politics, from Richard Elías to Nina Trasoff to Jennifer Eckstrom were mentioned as possible candidates in a primary. I have my doubts that Salazar gets the nod, but if he does, let the fun begin.

  • Democrats are dreaming that she will run for the U.S. Senate? Really??

  • We gotta play ‘em one day at a time. I’m just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ballclub. I just want to give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out.

  • Ya never know, but I were establishing the odds in Las Vegas I’d say Janet has as much chance at a SCOTUS appointment as I have of becoming Miss California – except that I haven’t had a boob job, and I think gay people have the same right to be miserable in a marriage as we breeders.

  • That would be something if it came to pass two out of the three women ever to serve on the court would have come from Arizona….Also, Janet was the first American woman ever to argue a case at the Hauge!

  • Count me as one Democrat who is NOT dreaming of Janet’s future candidacy for any Arizona office ever again. She should have told Obama what Ed Rendell did, which is that she had a job to finish as governor here. I wish her well if she is nominated for the Supreme Court, but I will never support her again as a candidate for office in this state. The nightmare currently being endured by teachers and students in Arizona is largely due to Janet leaving us with the foxes in charge of the henhouse.

  • Right on, Rex!

  • The court needs more female representation
    It needs “real” black representation
    It needs gay representation

    Hey, what about Wanda Sykes?

  • Janet would be a very safe pick. Possibly a backup if the first nomination is too… activist? is that the right word? No, if the nominee is too human. She has been already confirmed by the Senate. Not much more they can object too.

  • Rex is absolutely right! I too would never, ever support Janet Napolitano in a run for senate or anything else . She did in fact abandon Arizona when our kids needed her the most. To damn with her ambition.

This is why we should be wary of folks with shallow roots in Arizona.

    RRRRRR!

  • Hey, has anyone done a poster of “Janet Get Your Gun” juxtaposed with an armed Sara Palin? In a contest, I’d put my money on Dead Eye Napolitano over the Hockey Mom.

  • I think Janet’s chances of becoming a SupremeCourt Justice are much better than her chances of returning to Arizona to run for an office here.
