On the Whole…

Major League Soccer announced yesterday that the new team in Philadelphia would be known as Philadelphia Union.
Here’s what I want to know: AFL-CIO or Change to Win? Will new players be allowed to simply sign up, or will business lobbyists demand that there be a secret ballot?

And when does St. Louis get a franchise?

Rio nuevo Idea #58—a MLS or Premier team playing at Tucson High…..or TEP, The club stuff would be better off at Himmel, and then play big games downtown in new facility for Soccer and Pima Football…..I dunno. Now that MLS has even teams, East and West, the next expansion will more like inlcude a Western Team. Anybody got 30 million lying around?

Kenny-
It is always on a short list for a team given its importance to American soccer (a significant number of players on the legendary 1950 world cup team were from St. Louis, for example). No dice just yet. St. Louis has a WPS team, St. Louis Athletica, which features St. Louis native Lori Chalupny.

We love Athletica! There is a book and 2005 movie of the same name, “The Game of Their Lives” that covers the 1950 World Cup team.

Yeah, I am amazed that there are no pro teams, even USL in the Southwest. The closest and most recent is Austin. Nothing in USL-2 either! Is it just too hot to play here or something? Why not San Diego even? Kills me that I had to choose Chivas as my team a couple years ago, although they are winning!!!!!

Please, Kenny, don’t encourage my brother. Besides, he already has the book, and the movie. Arrgh.

Tom, I bet you won’t be talking so tough when I get you out there on the field. I’ll show you how we play on the Hill.
The gloves? Don’t ask about the gloves.
