Area Man to Become New Police Chief
The talk since this morning has been that the search for a new police chief has been narrowed down to two candidates, John Leavitt and Roberto Villaseñor. A couple insiders have told me that Villaseñor is nearly a sure thing to get the nod and that will be announced later today.
For some reason, one source kept refering Villaseñor as “Taz.” This blogger knows not the reason why.

I don’t know Villasenor at all and he may be fantastic, but John Leavitt is truly exceptional. I just want to say that if we get him, we can all be seriously proud. Again, Villasenor could be beyond incredible also, but I have worked with Leavitt and he is truly fair and would make a fantastic and responsible police chief.

As a retired TPD officer, both are unqualified to solve the departments problems. Taz (Villasenor) is his nickname and he is the one that was trying to prevent officers from checking citizen status of those in the public school when they have been arrested for other crimes. Leavitt and Taz are both way left of center politically so it does make sense that they would be the choices.

AzCop is right. The only candidates who should have been considered are those who are openly hostile to the community and its elected leadership. I think Larry Lopez would have made a fine chief.
