Almost Needs No Comment
From today’s Capitol Times, an account of a budget briefing:
[John] McComish said it is unreasonable for people to expect transparency to mean that all budget discussions are done in public view, because many of them involve sensitive, complex matters that many people might not understand.
In the same briefing, Tlatoani Kirk Adams explained that this was to prevent the release of “inaccurate” information, but McComish seems to think that we average citizens are just too dumb to know what to do with any information, accurate or otherwise.
I can see their point. I think the past few months have shown that the Republican leadership in the legislature has a monopoly on high-minded, reasoned, nuanced policy discussion in this state. We in the public should learn to appreciate their intelligence in all matters and quit interfering in their thoughtful deliberations.
