Cherny In, and Much to My Disappointment, Will Not Be Changing His Name to Joey Bishop

Andrei Cherny will be making his official announcement tomorrow morning that he is a candidate for state treasurer at the state capitol. Here he is in a video that is available on his website:

Most recently, Cherny was employed with Terry Goddard’s office, a post he left in January. This made for controversy of the tempest-in-a-teapot variety when Dean Martin made hay of this.

  • You’re on the right track. I think that changing his name to Sammy Davis could be a mistake because he was openly Jewish and changing your name to Frank Sinatra could be detrimental because everyone knows he is dead (although he might get more of the well known “dead vote” that would be up for grabs). Although Sammy is also dead and maybe he could attract the “dead vote” as well. Dammit, I’m confused. How about that “you can call me Ray or you can call me Ray Ray” guy? Is he still alive?

  • Hmmm, let me see if I get this right. Mr. Cherny thinks that some solar company debt obligations that don’t produce as high or as secure an investment should receive special preferences compared to everybody else.

When the State of Arizona LGIP is $2 billion dollars and reducing the investment returns means higher taxes for the people in Arizona I wonder how investing in securities with lower returns ends up helping We the People of Arizona?

It looks to me like Mr. Martin won’t need to worry (that) much from the Democrat Party candidate come 2010.

Perhaps there is something about using the word “strategy” that makes a difference.

I don’t mind if other folks choose to invest in a solar mutual fund but when it comes to the government the two goals should be to minimize risk and to maximize return, not pursue various liberal social policies via the monies of the State of Arizona funds.

  • I know! He can change his name to Paul Newman!

    Oh; what’s that?

    Uh, nevermind.

  • Excellent!! FINALLY – a Treasurer we can trust!! I’m in for Andrei (and not just because he wrote a book my Dad loved about the Berlin Airlift).
