A Word on “The List”
A long time city hall watcher informed me yesterday that the list that is posted by the city clerk no longer includes candidates that have pulled papers but have not yet filed. In past years, everyone that grabbed a packet out of curiousity would be listed.
Back in 2005, I pulled papers but found out I was ineligible to run (I had not lived at my house long enough). I sent a letter withdrawing my name, and soon after the list was posted with a big “x” over my name. Kinda creepy.
One reason for not putting up the name of everyone that pulls papers is that sometimes people pull papers not for themselves, but for other speculative candidates. This would lead to confusion over who was actually running. Heck with that, that allowed wags like me to play a parlor game trying to guess who the papers actually got pulled for.
Once again: city hall making politics less fun.
