According to the Yellow Sheet, State Treasurer Dean Martin thinks that Attorney General Terry Goddard is conspiring against him!
Geez.
The conflict between the two is ongoing, but the current iteration is that Martin wants to be able to hire outside counsel, and Goddard has argued that this will lead to unnecessary expenses and could elevate disputes between state agencies into lawsuits. I’m betting that Martin is angry that Goddard’s office says “no” to his media stunts too often and he just wants to shop around for a lawyer who says “yes.”
Martin is now alleging that Goddard is trying to strong arm him by recruiting a candidate against him, one that works for his office. That candidate is Andrei Cherny, who (contrary to what Martin thinks) no longer works for Goddard. Cherny resigned from the office back in January, weeks before he opened that exploratory committee. From what I understand, Goddard’s folks were actually sad to see him go. Also, I find it hard to buy Cherny as some sort of hack who has to do Goddard’s bidding. The guy has worked for Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. This is not the profile of a guy who has to follow instructions because he owes his job to Goddard.
But, here is the best part: despite Cherny’s status as a best selling author (buy the book here!), he does not have much name ID. He certainly doesn’t have as much as someone named Dean Martin (no truth to the rumor that Cherny will change his name to Joey Bishop). By making hay of this, Martin has just put a little more attention on Cherny’s nascent campaign. A couple of more mentions like this in the Yellow Sheet ought to help Cherny with that early fundraising.

Dean “Bob’s Big Boy” Martin is downing too many Coca-Colas for his own good.
They’ve been making him lose his cool, get too jittery.
Is this a mistaken admission by the WASPed Crusader that he is NOT running for governor and that he will stick it out as the state’s Chicken Little in Chief?
I’d love to see this match-up. There will be so much to learn about Deanie.

Arizona Treasurer Dean Martin may have drunk too much if he thinks he can get elelcted to anything. At the request of Attorney General Terry Goddard, Dean martin is under investigation by the FBI for directing, when he was in the legislature, thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from lobbyist into two companies he owns that were just mail drops. This is an indictment just waiting to happen.
I bet Andrie Cherny, which is a very nice name, knows about this and decided that Martin would be easy to defeat.
