Someone Isn’t Getting a Copper Letter

I got a report from one of our Pima Villages correspondents who attended a meeting of the Valley Citizens League where Frank Antenori spoke. According to our correspondent, Antenori again denied he represented Tucson, even after a direct question to that effect.

  • Antenori DOESN’T represent Tucson. At least he told the truth.

  • He doesn’t represent any of his district because he seems to think it is wasteful to try to protect funding that should be in this region.

  • Yeah, kill Antenori for questioning the waste of Rio Nuevo and for prioritizing K-12 funding over SFA in tight economic times.

Once again, I will remind you that the Dems zeroed out SFA funding in their recommendation.

You want to also put the Dems to go on record that Rio Nuevo has been a stellar success of managment and sound fiscal policy. Go right ahead.

85% of his district is outside of Tucson and those people probably think about as much of the leadership of the city as he does. I’m sure Sierra Vista would like to set up a TIF district too and I can well imagine what they think when they see the mismanagment of tens of millions of dollars by Tucson on Rio Nuevo.

  • You need to do a whole lot better Flipper. Did the Democrat delegation in Tucson support zeroing out SFA? Before or after the budget proposal was dead on arrival…it was dead on arrival before it even got there. If a bunch of Phx dems zeroed it out then so be it and I am angry. But Flipp, I will apply the same standard I am applying to Antenori and Gowan to our local reps here. If Farley, et. al. supported zeroing out SFA then I would be angry…YES…

But Antenori boasted of it…in the freakin paper…and until I see that Dems in Tucson did not support bringing dough back here then you can’t say…”they supported it too”.

  • Well, they sure as heck didn’t vocally support it in the “freakin paper”, did they? So start bashing them too.

SFA was a good cut. You are apparently all about bringing money to Southern Arizona no matter whether it’s effectively used or not.

Rio Nuevo will be the next good cut. Where’s your delegation on that one defending the city’s mismanagement. Antenori will be out front on that one too. Your delegation will be sitting on their thumbs. Again.

  • Antenori will indeed be out in front on gutting any of our tax dollars…that you and I pay…from going to our region. Instead, move up to Maricopa “flipper” because that is where your tax dollars are going…to Maricopa.

On Rio Nuevo, I have problems with the progress no doubt, but it was only about 4 years ago that they got the state sales tax revenue share…it takes years and years to get a downtown moving forward and now we are in a pretty bad economy where the building is not going to start for awhile. So Antenori and you would like that share of our tax dollars going back to Phx.

And on the SFA, you truly don’t know what you are talking about. That money supported a fledgling biotech program that had already built endowed professors to produce research that both corporate America and the goverment want. It was seed money to establish this region further toward economic growth…like optics has and space sciences has…on the govt. teet.

  • OK, so let’s just get this straight: you say that any taxpayer money that comes to this region is good, no matter if it’s wasted or not. Because Rio Nuevo has wasted a big pile of bucks. So if you want your money thrown down a rat hole, that’s fine. I don’t.

As for the SFA, I would love to see a list of projects they funded and how many of them had nothing to do with science and bio tech research. I am sure that would be an elightening list.

What part of “prioritize limited resources” do you not understand?

You want to solve it via taxes? OK, $3B divided by 6.3M people, that’s at least $2,000 per family of four. Raise it from businesses or people, it’s going to ultimately get paid by people. Get out your checkbooks. You obviously don’t think we’re paying enough already. I do.
