Friends Don’t Let Friends…

When I first got this, I got a bit ticked off. I was thinking, what the heck is AEA doing putting together a forum for Republican legislators that only encourages Republican members of the public to participate?

Then, I thought about it. Hey, this isn’t such a bad idea: AEA wants Republican legislators to know that even people that support them aren’t happy with what has been going on with the budget. Not half bad.

Hat tip to David Safier for showing me this.

You may be interested in attending the Republican Legislative Forum on Saturday, February 21st.

There will be a legislative forum and public input is welcomed specifically from registered Republicans to speak to the Republican state reps for District 26 and District 30.

We need more parents and neighbors involved in helping address the challenges faced in dealing with this state budget crisis and investing state funds in FY10 and beyond to benefit our children and ensure an educated workforce in Arizona.

  • My concern is that the Republicans would preemptively pack the thing with boosters: “Rep. Antenori, what can we as your constituents do to bring about more School Choice? Also, the Goldwater Institute told me that Arizona spends $8000 per pupil. What kind of further budget cuts should we do to bring that down?”

  • Let make the environment so hostile they will all want to resign

  • recall….recall….recall…..

  • There are lots of Republican teachers and parents who aren’t happy about what is happening in Phoenix. I think we can assume AEA is targeting those folks to attend this meeting in numbers sufficient numbers to drown out the cranks.

Odds on Slick Vic / Vic08.com / Vic “The Wild Thing” Williams showing up?

  • The local Chamber of Commerce had a meeting with just Republican legislators on the same Friday as the forum Rep. Williams no-showed. Many of the Chamber participants were very clear (especially to Sen. Melvin, arrrrrgggghhhh) that “cutting” our way through this crisis was unacceptable. Allegedly, even Timby voiced support for “revenue enhancement.”

Question (off topic): who do the readers of RRR believe to be the most ideologically driven members of our legislature?

  • That’s a tough one, Kenny. Right now I’m going to go with Nancy Barto, for her fixation on fetii.

  • After his win against Pete, Melvin would be right to assume that his real contest is in the primary. He should not be let off the hook with these more moderate R’s, but he likely knows who he wants to please.
