Probably Had Something Better to Do…

Vic Williams, whose campaign URL you may remember, didn’t bother to show up to a hearing of the Education Committee this morning. Not only does he sit on the panel, the meeting was in his own darned district. I know it is quite a trek for him, especially for such a minor matter that hasn’t gotten a lot of public attention lately.

Vic never was a big fan of high schools.

As one of Rep. Williams’ constituents and an educator who works at another school in his district, I find his absence from this meeting to be both baffling and insulting. Those of us who attended LD26 campaign forums grew weary of the fact that Williams the candidate was either a fence-straddler, or someone who would ape the views of others when it came to expressing his views on schools and children’s issues. His decision to blow off this meeting, coupled with his vote for cuts in school funding should be a strong indicator to all LD26 voters that he needs to be a one-termer.

Huh! we would have been happy to make Williams a no-termer! I firmly believe that with the right kind of help from the state party, we would have prevailed. When a group from LD 26 met with Williams in Phoenix last Wednesday, he said two memorable things: the most important thing for him is to remain relevant in his (Republican) caucus and he is the only Republican who didn’t sign the pledge not to raise taxes! On the first issue, the transcendent importance of being relevant in the Republican caucus, I told him the most important thing is for him to represent his constituents. Novel notion for a Republican. On the bright side, Nancy Young Wright shined at yesterday’s hearing. She was well prepared, asked excellent questions of those who spoke to bring out a number of issues and generally made me very proud that at least one legislator represents me and my concerns!

Is there any way to recall this poser?
I completely agree Rex. I live in his district, he seems to be doing everything he can to harm our education system, and he is a no show.
By the way, he also doesn’t respond to constituent correspondence. In fact, of all of the GOPers I have written in this area (and very respectfully I might add), Jonathan Paton was the only one to return an email.

Williams put it quite clearly when we met with him in Phoenix: the most important thing is for him to remain relevant in his (Republican) caucus. That’s his view of the world – go do him something!
