What Was Weak Last Week
I’ve got a few small items that I neglected to address last week. Now, I can say “After the jump…” like all the classy blogs do.
In a move borrowed from Southern Republican Senators, Basha’s Supermarkets blamed the UFCW for layoffs last week. Bear in mind that Basha’s only unionized employees are in a handful of stores that they purchased from other chains. It can’t be the overall economy that’s the problem, it’s all that power that Big Labor has here in Arizona.
The Arizona Guardian reported last week that Jack Harper is going to start going after field offices for various state agencies. He thinks that money is being wasted on leases and furniture for offices in far flung areas of the state that he has doesn’t care to visit. I guess we poor unfortunates in the rest of Arizona should all be driving to Phoenix to get their business done with the state and just be thankful that their tax cuts will help pay for the gas. Bear in mind that until very recently his own city of Suprise was considered one of those provincial places far from the capitol until it was swallowed by the Phoenix connorbation.
Over on Speedway, there is a billboard advertising a Goldwater Institute dinner with Dick Armey. Geez. It was only a week or so ago that Armey made a patronizing attack on Joan Walsh on Hardball when he was losing an argument. Walsh’s Salon has a chronicle of Armey’s sexism. Armey, if you remember, got into trouble years ago for refering to Barney Frank as “Barney Fag.” He claimed it was a slip. Of course, his name is “A Legion of Penises” with no slip necessary.

My Basha’s is closing, but the fully-unionized Safeway and Fry’s by my house are not. Yeah, must be the unions.
I don’t know what’s to blame except too much competition. Basha’s was a great place to shop, but it was always empty, for some reason.

I expected a take on the “Arizona Guardian” going to a $30/month subscription-only model. For that price here, I’d expect actual Rum to be shipped to my house (with Romanism and Rebellion available at the Professional and Non-profit levels).
