Personally, I believe that Steele is the best choice for Republicans if they are serious about fixing what is wrong with their party.  He&#039;s somewhat of a moderate, and raised some hackles with his totally honest and forthright assessment of the Republican brand when he ran for office in 2006 (saying he was stuck with a scarlet letter &#039;R&#039; next to his name.)

However, the conservatives who still dominate the GOP won&#039;t let him move the needle back to the center that easy. What will be interesting is to watch the infighting that ensues. My prediction is that in the end the conservatives will win since they&#039;ve already driven too many moderates out of the party, and Steele will either become irrelvant or will submerge his own ideas to run with the herd and give in to the conservatives.

Maybe he can make some ground with conservatives by playing a round of golf with Dawson to talk about it-- oh, yeah. He can&#039;t.</description>
