Where a JLBC Staffer Notes That Steve Farley Doesn’t Have Any Horns
Members of the legislature will be doing something called “budget boot camp” this week. I have spent the whole weekend trying to erase images of certain more rotund members doing low crawls.
I’ll give a wee bit of credit here (don’t worry, I’ll be back to criticizing by the next paragraph) and say that I think it is good that leadership is trying to take care of budget matters early in the session rather than wait until a week before sine die and blame the governor. The Senate will engage in no buisiness other than budget matters, while the House will still allow for committee meetings and committee of the whole while the budget is being worked on.
I still wonder, however, if anything is actually going to be done on the budget over the next couple of weeks. I have talked to a couple of Democratic members who have looked over the schedule and have their doubts that the lege will be doing anything except wheel spinning while waiting for Jan Brewer to become governor. For all of the hay being made about “boot camp,” it remains to be seen if this will just be a series of lectures from staff of the Joint Legislative Budget Committee or if any actual work will get done.
