Maybe They Plan to be Up to Something They Don’t Want Us to Know About…
Newly ensconsed Senate President Bob Burns has taken to kicking the press out of the building.
Okay, not entirely, but he has refused to issue “leases” to media organizations that don’t currently have them and has indicated that organizations that have leases will not have them renewed. These leases allow reporters access to legislators’ offices as well as allow them easier access when meetings run outside of normal business hours. They also allow them use of a “press room,” which Burns is shutting down, claiming that there is no longer space for it. I’m assuming that even without these leases, press members can still sit in the public gallery, but give Burns time…
I’m curious how Burns can claim that they need the press room for meeting space. The State Senate is the same size it has been since the mid-seventies, and I doubt that the state’s current situation allows for extra staff to have been hired.
