Michael–did you even see the SNL where one of the cast members was out in Times square on Rosh Hashannah waiting for the ball to drop? Priceless. Thanks for your story, I dig. Did anyone notice that Sean Hannity was named Media Matters MISINFORMER of the Year. Awesome.

This year, whenever somebody wished me a Merry Christmas, I wished them a Happy Hannukah right back. For those who didn’t get it and laugh and apologize right away, I just looked back at them with equal confusion and said, “oh, I thought we were wishing each other a joyful celebration of holidays we don’t celebrate. I thought that was a thing you were doing.” That usually lead to at least a smile.

As a Jew born on Christmas Eve, I have a complicated relationship with this time of year, but have decided to make light of unintentional insensitivity and use it as a teaching moment.

You threw away a stripper trading card??? You never know how valuable it will be in a few years. You are supposed to collect them and.or trade them with friends! That 19 year old rookie may go big league some day and take down a mayor, congressman, or even the Governor of New York! It would like having GOLD in your hand!!

that is funny —but the faith thing is sometimes taken way to far, but the whole I remember being in Vegas one time and being handed one of those Prostitute cards and some super Jesus person got in my face about seizing tempations of the flesh. I’m like: “dude, I didn’t even know what the guy was giving me?” And threw the card in the nearest garbage receptacle. Anyway about 7 hours later I am about to enter the Studio Fifty Four in New York New York and who do I see walking into the GO-GO bar next door? you guessed it, ‘tempations of the flesh guy’. Congrats bro–you just ruined evangelical integrity for all of us……

Paul,

I’m not sure you get it though. It is ‘intolerance’ towards Christians if you don’t greet people during the month of December in exactly the right way, using the exact same words that THEY use. If you don’t do that, then it is wrong, and you are smearing God! And God don’t want no smearing, darn it!

It’s hard to imagine, but it was not all that long ago that they were complaining about the commercialization of Christmas, how Target et al were costing us the ‘true meaning’ of Christmas what with Santa Claus, endless sales and commercials all over TV pitching the latest fad to your five year old.

But now they don’t care about that any more. Now it’s about saying, “Season’s greetings.”

It’s gotten so bad that next time one of these loony tunes tells me, “Merry Christmas” I may respond,
“I can’t– didn’t you guys just pass a proposition stating that marriage must be between a man and a woman?”
