Howard Dean in Tucson
I got a call a couple of hours ago:
“Is this James G. Blaine?”
It wasn’t John Logan, but Howard Dean. I had the chance to ask him a few questions. Unfortunately, some changes in his schedule prevented me from being able to do a video interview with him. Some of you may have caught my conversation with Dean at the Democratic convention when he talked about Obama’s chances here in Arizona. I asked him about that again. He pointed out that Arizona was part of the “Western Strategy” that the party had, and probably would have remained so had McCain not been the nominee.
I also asked Dean about McCain’s campaign resorting to negative robocalls here over the last few days. He didn’t want to address the calls specifically, but wanted to point out how much better Obama’s programs would be for Arizonans.
I closed off asking Dean if Obama’s strong support in Southern Arizona indicated that voters in Pima County were more discerning and, well, just better than voters in Maricopa County. Being that he was on his way to an event in Maricopa County, he chose not to address that point, but he did state that a the current margins in Pima County plus a strong split in Maricopa County would mean an Arizona victory.
I managed to get some video of Dean’s remarks to the volunteers. I apologize for the audio on this one. Since this wasn’t a Grateful Dead show, nobody offered to “Y” me into the sound system.
Free equal time, here is the lone anti-Obama protestor at the event:

After making calls this weekend to infrequent voters in Maricopa county, I have to disagree with your comments. The support for Obama in this area is quite strong and we should have the numbers here to help squeak out a win tomorrow!
