Shadegg Steps In It Again
Gosh, it just gets better, donnit?
This from the Bob Lord campaign. By the way, this follows John Shadegg opening up a wave of negative ads on Yom Kippur. Sensitive, that Shadegg.
PHOENIX — John Shadegg sent a weak apology letter to a World War II POW he exploited in his false TV commercial and the POW and his family say they are more insulted now than before at Shadegg’s disrespect of veterans.
Shadegg suggests in the letter that he did nothing wrong and blames the POW, Constantine O’Neill, 89, and his wife, Mary, for attending a veterans event where the picture was taken.
“First Shadegg implied in his ad that we support him, and now he is attacking my husband and my family in what was supposed to be an apology,” Mary O’Neill said today when she called the Bob Lord campaign seeking help. “My husband was strong enough to live through a German prison camp, but this made him break down and cry. This is living proof of John Shadegg’s vile disrespect for our troops and veterans.”
The O’Neills received the apology letter from Shadegg who said “I am truly sorry,” but made sure to point out the following flippant remarks in these excerpts:
- “Neither the photo nor any text in the TV commercial depicts or claims that you or any of the others in the photo support me.”
- “I’m deeply sorry it upset you but I can only suggest that perhaps you should not have attended the event if you did not wish to have your picture taken and would react so strongly.”
Is that really an apology? I guess being an ideologue means never having to say you are sorry.
The full text of the letter is up at PolitickerAZ, and the original letter is at Bob Lord’s site.
