Remember the Maine!
I know that yesterday everyone was transfixed not only by the interview that John McCain had where he seemed to think that the Prime Minister of Spain was an anti-American Latin American dictator (even after the interviewer clearly identified him as the Prime Minister of Spain). Okay, maybe not transfixed, but I followed it. I particularly liked McCain advisor Randy Schuneman’s explanation that it wasn’t that McCain made a mistake, but that McCain knew who Zapatero was and was dissing him for not supporting us in the Iraq War. Not only does this strain credulity, but if true, is actually worse for our relations with Spain (a member of NATO) than admitting that McCain may have misheard or misunderstood the question.
Anyhow, I’m wondering why no one has looked at this angle: McCain may be looking to further emulate his hero Theodore Roosevelt by encouraging war against Spain. Heck, it worked out well for TR, didn’t it? And Spain would be far easier to take out now than it was in 1898. It would certainly do wonders for the domestic paella market.
Next up: look for McCain to gin up a conflict with the Raisuli Sultan. He’s held Ion Pedicaris long enough.

El Raisuni (“Raisuli”) was not a Sultan, he was a Sharif. This was clear even in that fun-but-historically inaccurate John Millius film, where the Sultan is identified (unhistorically) as his brother. It should also be remembered that El Raisuni was allied with the Spanish during the Rif War of the 1920s.

The shariiiiif don’t like it….
Gratuitous music reference aside, McCain’s campaign is increasingly reminding me of a bad real life version of “Canadian Bacon”.
“Canadians are always dreaming up a lotta ways to ruin our lives. The metric system, for the love of God! Celsius! Neil Young! “

BTW, paella is known as “freedom rice dish” effective immediately.

McCain treats Spain mainly with disdain.

I didn’t see the interview you are referring to. Was it a small town clinging to guns and religion type of gaff or a first time I’m proud of my country type of gaff?

No Walt S., it was an “I’m incapable of being entrusted with the security of the United States” kind of gaffe.

I understand totally Donna. It was I don’t understand how a women with 5 children can run for the Vice Presidency type of gaff. Do you really want to go to Charlie Rangel’s latest gaff regarding Governor Palen and handicap children?
When you live in a glass house Donna, don’t throw rocks or someone may label you as a hypocrite.

So how’s that trickle down economics and deregulation stuff that you’ve been blindly and stupidly embracing for your overlords working out for ya, Walt? Maybe in the coming depression one of them will let you clean the septic tanks on his yacht for 2 dollars.
No wingnut is really in any position to lecture about glass houses these days.

It’s simple. It was a McCain moment. He confused Zapatero with the Zapatistas and thought the interviewer was talking about Daniel Ortega. Ortega has recognized the Russian takeover in South Ossetia and probably angered President Elect McCain. God Help Us All. Thomas Jefferson said “The government you elect is government you deserve.” I’m afraid he was right and the electorate in the states that matter will doom us.

Okay this is minor but the woman’s name is Palin, not Palen.

I am so scared of a McCain Presidency. I can’t say it any more clearer. If we elect anymore Repulbicans this could very well be the end of the United States of America.

Obama will win. Republicans don’t want the country in the state it is in. It is best to wait for the Dems to straighten it out again and wait for another opportunity to pounce for power.
And the ignorant will once again follow…..
