The Dog That Didn’t Bark

I couldn’t find the article archived online, but yesterday’s Republic featured a “Newsmaker Q & A” with Republican Party Chair Randy Pullen. The article was entitled “State GOP Chief: McCain nomination a plus for Ariz.” This is ironic given who got Pullen into office.

Anyway, what I found interesting was Pullen’s answer to a question about what seats they can capture in November’s election:

There is a tremendous chance to retake Congressional District 5 because the incumbent Harry Mitchell has been so close to Nancy Pelosi, who is to blame for getting nothing done this summer regarding gas prices and energy independence. Our challenger, David Schweikert, is an experienced candidate with lots of support.

Hmm. So, no mention of, you know, that other incumbent that they are taking on. You know, the one where they have the President of the State Senate running? You’d think it wouldn’t have been that hard to mention that race to. Or, has Pullen already thrown in the towel on that one?

NB - An alert reader sent me a link, which included his answers to many questions that weren’t included in the print version.

  • They’re so full of beans on CD5. Yes, the Republicans have an edge here but this district has a high concentration of educated professionals. Schweikert isn’t as bat guano wingnutty as some of his primary opponents but his brand of social conservatism does not go over well with independents and moderate Rs here.
